8 Autumn Essentials for Forest Fairies

October 1, 2017

Hello, it’s me again! I know it’s been a while but I really hope you all had a beautiful summer filled with blooming flowers, singing birds and buzzing bees. My summer was one of the best I’ve had in many years and I will perhaps share that in the future. But a little part of me is jumping for joy that the magic of summer has slowly faded into our next season. AUTUMN! Yes! My favourite time of year.

Our beautiful scarves, boots and warm sweaters have been patiently waiting in our closets for their chance to embrace the crisp autumn air. Finally it’s time for many evening strolls crunching over the colourful fallen leaves followed by some delicious tea and cake.

Colours of autumn are normally woven into my everyday wardrobe and I own more brown, burgundy, green and grey clothes than any other colours. I feel most comfortable at this time of year and my creativity is given a good kick start again. I’m definitely not a fashion guru but I do believe certain things we wear and experience help us feel good about ourselves.

To kick off the season, I decided to put together a list of my autumn essentials that I enjoy wearing, listening to and reading about during this beautiful time of year.

  1. Scarves

Number one item is definitely a scarf! The coziest of accessories! I love my burgundy plaid scarf. It goes with lots of outfits in my wardrobe and adds a bit of warmth to a chilly autumn morning.

  2. Hiking Boots

You’ll always be ready for an adventure when you’ve got your hiking boots on. My mom bought these for me as a present from Josef Seibel and I just love them! They also make great photos for Instagram.

  3. Cable Knit Sweaters

Cable knit sweaters are my favourite! I love them because they look very traditional and remind me of Ireland. Neutral colours are great to use as a base and then you can add some colour with a scarf!

  4. Thrifty Bags

I have a fun collection of bags I’ve found while thrifting. This one is velvet with leather leaves. It’s pretty much made for this season!

  5. Jewelry with Special Meanings

When I visited Vancouver this past summer I purchased a really special necklace from Keith Jack. He has a massive selection of jewelry so it was incredibly difficult to choose. The one that called to me was from his Elven collection. It has the texture of bark and celtic knots down the sides. And the peridot stone is the perfect colour to represent my love for the forest.

  6. Cute Coffee Mugs

Don’t forget your favourite mug for some coffee or tea. Even though my polka dot mug is chipped, it’s the one I choose every time I sit down for a hot beverage. It reminds me of a toadstool.

  7. Autumnal Sounds

I have been a fan of Agnes Obel and Of Monsters and Men for years now which have always been my go to music for the season. But lately I’ve found that Spotify has some pretty amazing Autumn inspired playlists. Autumn Acoustic is best if you want to imagine you are strolling down a path covered in fallen leaves.

  8. A Good Book

To end my list I thought of how I usually end my day and that’s curled up on the couch with a good book and a fuzzy blanket of course. I’ve been reading “The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben for the past month. It takes me a while to get through books and sometimes I don’t even make it to the end. This book is keeping me interested because its changing the way I look at trees. I can see different personalities and understand why trees grow certain ways. It makes me love trees even more!
